Support the WHO Headquarters Emergency Operations Centre with telecommunications and proximity IT support.

We just found out that one of our event support specialists will be unavailable for the month of December 2020 so we're trying to find a replacement for just this month. This will include work on some weekend and holiday days. This could be a good opportunity for a student or someone who recently completed studies in a relevant field and wants a bit of work experience. 1. Background

The WHO HQ Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is a central location for WHO’s response to public health emergencies, providing support for telecommunications, proximity IT support, and emergency response information systems. During the COVID response with most WHO staff working remotely the requirements for telecommunications and information systems support increased enormously, and the EOC temporarily needs additional personnel to handle the surge.

2. Work to be performed

The consultant will be responsible for planning, scheduling and organizing meetings, web, video and teleconferences conferences in EOC and other conference rooms; monitoring, triage and dissemination of the generic EOC e-mail account, responding to requests and/or routing queries and sensitive matters to the designated staff for action; and providing IT proximity support in the EOC, namely resolving issues and ensuring that equipment remains operational at all times;

3. Essential knowledge and skills

Expert English language. Background in information technology. Administration of telecommunications services, including web conferencing. French language a plus.

4. Education requirements

Training in information technology or telecommunications.

Start date: 07/12/2020 End date: 31/12/2020

Total working days: 20

6. Remuneration

USD 6960

In addition to this remuneration you might be eligible for reimbursement of living expenses for up to USD 3000 if you meet the following criteria:

Eligibility for payment of living expenses:

  • Consultants who have to travel, from outside Switzerland or neighboring France, to take up their consultancy assignment and work on WHO/HQ premises in Geneva;
  • Consultants hired from Switzerland, outside the commuting distance, subject to the provision of proof of renting accommodation within the Geneva area;
  • Consultants who were internationally recruited by another international organization, hold a legitimation card and have been residing in the Geneva area for less than 24 months.
